Explore Gobustan museum, ancient petroglyphs and mud volcanoes in 4-hour tour with a local guide. Gobustan National Park, included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list, is one of Azerbaijan’s most popular sights attracting thousands of tourists annually. You will spend overall 4 hours in order to enjoy this trip. Throughout your journey, you will be guided by local and friendly English speaking tour guide. You will learn about the history of petroglyphs found in this area, get direct experience with the mud volcanoes (no worries, these volcanoes are cold!) and get useful information to make your stay in Baku much more interesting and exciting.
Tour departs from the exit of Sahil metro station. Your guide will have a badge with their name and Baku Tours logo on it. See the image for the exact meeting point: http://bit.ly/SahilMeet. If you’d like a hotel pickup, please choose “Hotel Pickup” option in extras and specify your accommodation address during checkout.
On wet seasons/rainy weather conditions, the Mud Volcanoes can be very muddy and impossible to reach by car. Therefore, in case of rainy weather/bad road conditions the trip to mud volcanoes will be substituted with a visit to Bibiheybat Mosque on the way back to the city center.
You will meet with your tour guide at Sahil metro station or your accommodation (has to be selected in "Extras" during checkout). Depending on the number of people joining the tour, we will utilize a private car or a private bus to reach Gobustan National Reserve.
The tour will start off from Gobustan Museum, where you will see ancient human bones, work tools used back to thousand years ago during the Mesolithic period. Gobustan geographical region is situated in the west-south of Baku. The meaning of the word «Gobustan» is derived from two words «gobu» – «ravine» and «stan»- «place», i.e. ravine area. The word «gobu» is also of Turkic origin and means «a dried up river valley».
After visiting Gobustan museum, you will advance to the mountain in order to see real rock paintings in the open air museum. Later on, the tour will proceed to the Mud Volcano which is 20 mins away from Gobustan National Museum. Azerbaijan keeps the first place in the world for the number of mud volcanoes. About 300 mud volcanoes are to be found in Azerbaijan – at the shore, in the sea and on islands. During this trip you will get a great chance to see these rare and active volcanoes from very close distance. Your tour will end at Sahil Park, one of the central parks of Baku. We can also drop you off at your accommodation, if you prefer so.
See the tour description for the exact meeting point. Alternatively, you can choose hotel pickup option in "Extra" section when choosing your tour date.
