Tour departs from the exit of Sahil metro station. Your guide will have a badge with their name and Baku Tours logo on it. See the image for the exact meeting point: http://bit.ly/SahilMeet. If you’d like a hotel pickup, please choose “Hotel Pickup” option in extras and specify your accommodation address during checkout.
On wet seasons/rainy weather conditions, the Mud Volcanoes can be very muddy and impossible to reach by car. Therefore, in case of rainy weather/bad road conditions the trip to mud volcanoes will be substituted with a visit to Bibiheybat Mosque on the way back to the city center.
You will meet with your tour guide at Sahil metro station or your accommodation (has to be specified during checkout). Depending on the number of people joining the tour, we will utilize a private car or a private minibus to reach Gobustan National Reserve.
The tour will start off from Gobustan Museum, where you will see ancient human bones, work tools used back to thousand years ago during the Mesolithic period. Later, we will proceed to the rocky area, where you will see ancient petroglyphs (stone carvings). Gobustan geographical region is situated in the west-south of Baku.
Later on, the tour will proceed to the mud volcanoes area which is 20 mins away from Gobustan National Museum. Azerbaijan keeps the first place in the world for the number of mud volcanoes. About 300 mud volcanoes are to be found in Azerbaijan – at the shore, in the sea and on islands. During this trip you will get a great chance to see these rare and active volcanoes from very close distance.
We will have a lunch break at a local restaurant before proceeding to Ateshgah Temple. If you would like to have a lunch box prepared for you beforehand, please choose this option at "Extras" during checkout.
After the lunch break, we will start heading to the ancient zoroastrian temple "Ateshgah" which is considered as an authentic Azerbaijani exotic site to visit. It is located approximately 30 km from the center of Baku in the suburb of Surakhany. You will learn a lot about the temple from your guide, particularly, more about the history of creation of such a temple in Baku and unique natural phenomenon of burning natural gas outlets.
After visiting the temple you will go directly to "Yanar Dag" ("Burning Mountain"), located not too far from Ateshgah Temple. It is the most famous and popular tourist site of the “eternal flame” in Azerbaijan. Actually, it is rather a hill than a mountain, with natural gas burning on its slope from ancient times.
See the tour description for the exact meeting point. Alternatively, you can choose hotel pickup option in "Extra" section when choosing your tour date.
